HTC RE camera launched at an inaugural price of Rs 9,990 and to be sold exclusively on Snapdeal

HTC RE

HTC announced its RE camera at the ‘Double Exposure’ event held in Mumbai on Friday night. The RE camera will be offered at an inaugural price of Rs 9,990 and will be sold exclusively on Snapdeal till stocks run out. HTC would not give us an exact number of units that are being stocked for the inaugural launch. Considering its US pricing is $199, that comes to around Rs 12,230 approximately.

RE Camera comes with a minimalistic design, almost resembling a periscope or an asthma pipe and it weighs a light 65 grams. HTC RE features a 1/2.3-inch 16-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide angle fixed-focus lens, having a viewing angle of 146-degrees, that can capture 1080p HD videos at 30 fps. It can also capture slow motion 720p videos at 120 fps. It houses an 860mAh battery that is rated for 1200 still images and 100 minutes of full HD video recording. It can take in a microSD card which is inserted at the base of the RE camera upto a 128GB capacity.

The RE has two buttons – one on the front and other on the back. Besides, there’s no display, viewfinder or graphical user interface. All of this is replaced with LED indicators to alert users about the functions and usability. Another interesting feature is how you switch it on and off. You won’t find a power button and the device automatically turns on when you pick it. If you are wondering about the two buttons on the device – a slow-mo button has been embedded on the front and the shutter button on the back.

You can pair the RE Camera with HTC’s app on an iPhone or Android phone to transfer images and video over Wi-Fi or use the phone as a remote viewfinder and set up time-lapses. It comes with a dedicated RE app to transfer images.

RE will soon offer real-time video streaming to YouTube, allowing you to live in the moment and share it live via your YouTube channel.
