Bad News for Samsung Fans: Galaxy A58 Could Keep a 6-Year-Old Camera

The Samsung Galaxy A58 might come with typical dual rear cameras, leaving little room for significant upgrades over its predecessor. Recent rumors suggest Samsung is resuming its strategy with a 5 MP macro sensor. This component hasn’t changed since 2020.

Samsung announced the Galaxy A57 5G in India in March 2026. Since then, the company has focused on the Exynos 1680 chipset. Attention is slowly shifting toward its successor, the Samsung Galaxy A58. However, we know only a few details about the device. If the rumors are true, photography fans shouldn’t get their hopes up too high.

Samsung Galaxy A58 May Reuse the Galaxy A57’s Camera Hardware

Galaxy A58 May Reuse the Galaxy A57's Camera Hardware

According to Dutch publication GalaxyClub, the Samsung Galaxy A58 is likely to get a triple rear camera setup with a 50 MP main sensor, 12 MP ultra-wide angle and 5 MP macro camera. The front-facing camera will allegedly have a 12 MP sensor as well.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy A58 is likely to get similar hardware to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy A57, launched earlier this year. Instead of adopting new technology, Samsung will apparently reuse the same sensors for the A-series flagships.

The most surprising part of this leak is the inclusion of a 5 MP macro camera. According to the report, Samsung will apparently reuse the same 5 MP sensor from the 2020 Galaxy A51. This suggests the Galaxy A58 will get dated hardware, while competitors like Apple and Google are already announcing smartphones with more advanced computational photography features.

However, there is one major caveat: the leak appears to be missing a telephoto camera. People who want to use their Samsung Galaxy A58 for optical zoom photography will be disappointed, as it seems Samsung never intended to use a telephoto lens and instead replaced the macro camera. As always, take these rumors with a grain of salt, as Samsung may revise its plans and announce a new set of specifications before the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy A58.

Samsung Galaxy A58 Expected Launch Timeline and Price

Samsung reportedly plans to release the Galaxy A58 in spring 2027, with arrival expected in March or April 2027. This would follow the pattern set by its predecessor, the Galaxy A57, which launched in March 2026.

The price tag could also become an issue. GalaxyClub believes the Galaxy A58 will cost more than its predecessor because a global RAM shortage is driving up smartphone prices.

Samsung has already increased the price of the Galaxy A57 in India. The device started at Rs 56,999, but now starts an Rs 62,999. Given current memory prices and component shortages, another increase is likely.

A higher starting price and modest camera upgrades might leave some consumers underwhelmed, especially those hoping for bigger improvements. Still, the Galaxy A58’s overall value will depend on several factors beyond its cameras, including the chipset, display, battery, software support and more.

Until the official announcement, take the rumored Galaxy A58 specifications with a grain of salt. There is still plenty of time between now and the expected release date for Samsung to refine its strategy; it could change. Everything will become clearer as the company gets closer to the official launch and starts revealing more information.
