Marvel Tokon PC Blocked in 132 Countries After Sony’s PSN Restrictions Backfire

Marvel Tokon is scheduled to arrive this August, yet a sizable share of the global PC audience might never reach the starting line on launch day. Sony’s PlayStation Network requirements have once again ignited controversy, leaving Marvel Tokon: Fighting Soul inaccessible through Steam in 132 countries. After earlier disputes surrounding PSN-linked releases, this title has now become the latest focal point of community frustration.

Anticipation was building up for the long-awaited release of the fighting game. Marvel fans and fighting game enthusiasts were eagerly waiting for the day to come. However, a situation regarding access rights to the PSN has put the game in a bad light. In particular, gamers from 132 countries are currently unable to purchase Marvel Tokon: Fighting Soul due to regional bans on the PlayStation Network.

Among the regions that have banned access to the game are Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. These are only a few examples of areas that are currently banned. The full list includes countries such as the Philippines, Afghanistan, Georgia, Egypt, the Dominican Republic, Viet Nam, Venezuela, and more. The news broke on SteamDB and spread like wildfire through the fighting game community, sparking quite a few reactions.

It is also a reminiscent situation of what happened in 2024 with the release of Helldivers 2

Back then, Sony faced significant backlash for requiring players to log in to the PlayStation Network to play the game.

Sony had to remove this restriction due to overwhelming player criticism. It will be interesting to see whether the situation with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Soul turns out to be any different. With the open beta scheduled to start later this month, gamers are hoping Sony will reconsider its decision before launch.

Sony’s broader PC strategy has also shifted in recent months. The company has signaled renewed emphasis on its console ecosystem, stating that first-party single-player titles will no longer receive the same level of PC support seen in previous years. Against that backdrop, speculation continues over whether Sony intends to relax the PSN requirement for Marvel Tokon or maintain its existing policy.

For now, neither Sony nor Arc System Works has issued an official response addressing the regional restrictions or the growing criticism surrounding them.

Community Frustration Continues to Grow

The player’s opinion of the situation is turning negative. Some people were already unhappy with Sony’s decisions on physical game copies, and this has only made them more dissatisfied.

Now that another big exclusive title has been involved, people are starting to talk again about the problems on the PlayStation Network. The only question left is whether Sony will reverse its decision before Marvel Tokon’s release or leave the bans in place.
