Gears of War 4 “possibly” getting a PC release, global release set for 11 October

In an interview with GameInformer, studio head of The Coalition, Rod Fergusson was asked if Gears of War 4 was coming to the PC. “Possibly” was the reply. For some gamers, this is as good as a confirmation or an announcement that Gears of 4 is indeed coming to the PC. The early version of the game, before the property was taken over by Microsoft, was apparently going in a mobile and PC direction, instead of the PC and console exclusive that it is today.

In January 2014, Microsoft purchased the rights to the franchise from Epic and announced that the next installment of the game would be developed by The Coalition. The game is a third person shooter with singleplayer and multiplayer modes. New additions to this version are expected to be knife based close range melee combat (it can’t possibly hope to compete with the gloriously gruesome chainsaw), and the “Buzzkill”, a weapon that fires ricocheting blades similar to the “Ripper” from Unreal Tournament.

Currently, the game is only expected for the Xbox One. The game is set for a worldwide release on October 11, 2016. There is however, a multiplayer beta going live this month, which you can participate in if you own the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. The possible release of Gears of War 4 for PC is not that surprising considering recent efforts by Microsoft to make the Xbox experience available on Windows 10 devices. There are social networking, remote control and community message board features currently available on the Xbox app for Windows 10. Cross platform multiplayer gaming is available in Fable Legends and Gigantic.
