After 6 years, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has finally added New Game+ mode. It was released as a free update on 5th November 2026 and offers returning players new rewards, new achievements, new runes and a completely revamped progression system.
The update introduces Mithril, a new in-game resource you can use to upgrade gear. You can accumulate Mithril to unlock the Master Assassin set (inspired by Naoe from Assassin’s Creed Shadows). Ubisoft first announced that feature in the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s Fall 2026 update on 29th October.
New Game+ is coming six years after Valhalla launched in 2020, and the game has now hit over 40m players. The one thing that’s been missing the entire time, though, is New Game+. It was one of the community’s most requested features, and its arrival is a moment fans have been looking forward to.
Ubisoft has also introduced a dedicated scaling system which gives returning players a completely different progression path. Gear, Runes and Masteries will all now contribute to Eivor’s overall Power. This will fundamentally change how you develop your character and allow much more experimentation with gear combinations and combat builds.
Mithril also has another major use: upgrading your Divine Gear and runes. Ubisoft has also expanded the equipment progression system by letting you upgrade all items to Divine Gear. This gives you much more freedom in progression, as you can now upgrade any piece of equipment you like rather than being restricted to a very specific set of high-end gear.
Interestingly, Ubisoft is now back on the AC franchise after the success of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced earlier this year. They’ve clearly pivoted back to AC after that title’s performance.
Beyond New Game+, the latest Assassin’s Creed Valhalla update brings us more runes, more achievements, a stash system and a whole raft of new rewards. That should give the returning player a lot more to do once they’ve completed Eivor’s original run through the game. Ubisoft has also confirmed that further updates for current-gen consoles are coming.
Another useful tip for PC players who already own the game digitally on Xbox. Eligible players can claim a free PC copy of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla via Ubisoft Connect (no need to buy it again). That’s a great way to continue Eivor’s story over to PC.
After 6 years, New Game+ has finally arrived at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Whether you’re after the new rewards, keen to try the new Divine Gear, or want to go through Eivor’s story again, there’s a good reason to head back to England and the surrounding areas with the November update.
