Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Hands-on Video Reveals Samsung’s Biggest Display Upgrade Yet

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra smartphone is set to address the most common complaint about foldable designs in an innovative way. A hands-on experience video released online before the device’s July 22 launch shows a nearly unnoticeable crease in the middle of the inner screen. A new hinge mechanism contributes to this improved design, according to Samsung’s engineers.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Leaked Footage Highlights a Dramatically Reduced Display Crease

The preview on Weibo from Instant Digital shows off the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in action, opening and closing under bright lights. The video highlights the foldable panel, which reveals a barely noticeable crease in the center.

Unlike the previous Galaxy Z Fold series, there is no prominent channel in the middle of the screen. Instead, the fold line is barely visible when the phone is tilted under strong light. While using the device, the center of the display would function like a regular smartphone panel, allowing smooth scrolling and swiping.

The video also provides a glimpse of the phone’s exterior, which is similar to that of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Redesigned Hinge Appears to Drive the Improvement

Earlier reports stated that Samsung made changes to the hinge to achieve this near-creaseless effect. This leaked test seems to confirm those rumors.

The new design does seem to have a cost. Based on earlier reports, the folding mechanism appears stiffer and requires more effort to open and close. It may not be as easy to prop the phone at different angles as previous models.

On the other hand, many people would probably say it’s worth it for the convenience of having a smartphone that doesn’t require constant bending.

Standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 Could Receive the Same Display Upgrade

The improved panel is unlikely to be exclusive to the Ultra, as the regular Galaxy Z Flip 8 will also get the same near-crease-free display.

The implications of this development reach beyond Samsung’s foldable lineup. As reported, the foldable iPhone Ultra will also use Samsung OLED’s display. If the report is true, then it is only a matter of time before the foldable iPhone also gets a phone with a nearly invisible crease.

Expected Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Specifications

Leaks about the hardware suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra would have been a flagship-level release.

It is said to have had an 8-inch internal screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 6.5-inch external display. The phone would have had a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip as its processing engine and a 5000 mAh battery to power it.

Its cameras would have included a 200 MP main shooter, a 50 MP ultra-wide, and a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

As for the software, the phone was set to launch with One UI 9 out of the box, making it one of the first Samsung phones to run the latest version of its custom Android skin.

Galaxy Unpacked 2026 Nears

Samsung has scheduled its next Galaxy Unpacked event for July 22, 2026, when the company is expected to unveil Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. Samsung is also rumored to release the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 at the event.

As the event approaches, more leaks and details about the topic are expected to be revealed, so people can better understand what Samsung is preparing for them before the event starts.
