HTC has launched a new top-of-the range model in the Desire series – the Desire Eye. Targeted at selfie lovers, the highlight of the device is its 13MP front camera.

Sporting a 5.2-inch Full HD LCD display, the smartphone comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. It also gets 16GB of built-in storage that is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. The device gets 13MP rear and front-facing cameras. It packs in a 2400mAh Li-Po battery.

The smartphone also features HTC’s new Eye Experience and Zoe. According to the company, the HTC Eye Experience is ‘fully equipped for those who love to take great photos, videos and selfies.’

Crop-Me-In places you at the heart of the action by cropping you from the image or video taken with the front-facing camera and positioning it within the scene captured by the main camera, opening the door to more extreme, exciting selfies and videos. Voice Selfie lets you take pictures using the front camera with voice commands. One can simply “say cheese” and don’t have to tap/click the shutter button.

Some other features include face fusion technology that merges your face with that of a friend or celebrity, Live Makeup lets you set the desired level of skin smoothing and preview the effect in real-time before the image is captured.

The new face tracking capability allows tracking up to four people in the same room, with each face cropped and positioned on the screen for further clarity. It also adds the new Split Capture function that combines simultaneous photos and videos taken on the front and back cameras into one split-screen image or video. “This creates a new selfie experience, allowing you to document your journey and your reaction without relying on thumbnail views,” states the HTC blog.

The Zoe collaborative video-editing app lets you remix your photos and videos into highlight reels, with themes and soundtracks. Zoe is a free app now available on Android and expected to be launched for iOS later this year.

The HTC Desire Eye is expected to be available via mobile operators and major retailers across EMEA, Asia and the US starting this month.
