Mattson Tomlin, the co-writer of The Batman and its upcoming sequel, has shown a clear interest in helping bring Spider-Man 4 to life. “Slow and steady wins the race. There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people, politics, and things going right that have nothing to do with me. But I haven’t gotten a ‘no’ yet!”

Tomlin’s vision isn’t about reliving the past. He wants to explore a new side of Tobey’s Spider-Man—a man who has aged, grown, and taken on new responsibilities. Back in July 2025, Tomlin shared his idea for the story:
“Honestly, right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards, given the last eight films.”
This idea hits deep. It’s not just about battling supervillains anymore. It’s about a man trying to balance his duties as a hero with the everyday challenges of raising a family. A story where Peter Parker isn’t just saving the city, but also trying to be present for bedtime stories, parent-teacher meetings, and the emotional struggles that come with fatherhood.
A Project That Almost Happened
The idea of Spider-Man 4 is nothing new. Back in the late 2000s, Sam Raimi was already working on it, and the movie was initially planned for release in May 2011. Storyboards, villains, and even early designs were already in place. But after creative disagreements with Sony, the project fell apart, and the studio rebooted the franchise with Andrew Garfield in 2012.
