OnePlus 12 Officially Released in China: 4,500 Nits Display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

In the ever-evolving landscape of smartphones, OnePlus has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation. The recent launch of the OnePlus 12 in China has stirred excitement among tech enthusiasts. Let’s delve into this much-anticipated device’s key specifications, performance enhancements, and pricing details.

OnePlus 12: Key Specifications

The OnePlus 12 brings many improvements—display, performance, and battery life. The centrepiece is its remarkable BOE-made X1 2K OLED display, boasting a colossal 6.82 inches size and an impressive 1440 x 3168 pixels resolution. What truly steals the spotlight is the jaw-dropping maximum brightness of 4500 nits, setting a new standard in the smartphone display arena. This LTPO display further allows a refresh rate as low as 1Hz, offering a seamless visual experience. DisplayMate’s A+ rating reinforces its exceptional colour accuracy and brightness.

Performance Leap with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Powering the OnePlus 12 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, marking a significant leap in performance compared to its predecessors. Benchmarked against fierce competitors like Apple’s A17 Pro and Qualcomm’s own 8 Gen 2, the 8 Gen 3 boasts a commendable 30% increase in speed. This enhanced core structure translates into a smoother and faster user experience, underlining OnePlus’s commitment to cutting-edge technology.

Battery Boost and Charging Innovation

Addressing the perennial concern of battery life, the OnePlus 12 has an extensive 5,400 mAh battery, a commendable increase from its predecessor. Although the charging speed remains 100W, the return of 50W wireless charging, absent in the OnePlus 11, adds versatility. Notably, the device introduces 10W reverse wireless charging, a feature catering to the growing demand for multi-device compatibility.

Storage Options and Camera Upgrades

The OnePlus 12 ships with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM as standard, with additional configurations of 16GB/512GB, 16 GB/1 TB, and 24GB/1TB. The camera setup sees a noteworthy upgrade with a 50MP wide Sony LYT-808 sensor as the main camera and a 48MP ultrawide Sony IMX 581 sensor as the secondary. The periscope lens, now a 64MP OmniVision OV64B unit, enables impressive 3X zoom without compromising image clarity.

Enhancements in Connectivity and Software

Under the hood, the OnePlus 12 introduces a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, a significant upgrade from USB 2.0. This enhancement promises faster data transfers and improved display-out capabilities. The device comes pre-installed with Android 14-based ColorOS 14 in China, while the global variant is expected to feature OxygenOS 14.

Innovative Features: Rain Touch Technology and X-axis Linear Motor

Among the less heralded updates are the Rain touch technology, allowing usage even in the rain, and a new X-axis linear motor for haptics, with AAC Technologies’ Bionic vibration motor codenamed Megatron. These features add nuanced improvements to the overall user experience.

Variants and Pricing in China

The OnePlus 12 is offered in colours like Leave Blank (white), green, and Iwaguro (black). In China, the base variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at Yuan 4,299 ($606), while the top-tier model with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage costs Yuan 5,799. Notably, there’s yet to be an official announcement on the global pricing.

OnePlus 12 Global Release Date and Price Speculations

While OnePlus is yet to confirm the global release date, notable leaker Max Jambor suggests it could happen on January 23rd in India. Reports on the global pricing estimate the OnePlus 12 to be priced at $699, with the Indian market likely to see the base model at Rs 59,999.

The OnePlus 12 emerges as a powerhouse in the smartphone arena, combining cutting-edge technology with thoughtful upgrades. From the unparalleled display brightness to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance boost, this device sets a new benchmark for smartphones. As we await its global release, the OnePlus 12 promises to be a game-changer.
