Apple is looking to greatly expand Siri’s capabilities in the latest update to iOS 27.3. The new developer beta introduces App Intents and App Skills, allowing Siri to perform more complex tasks.
So far, Siri has only been able to do so much. Still, Apple is opening its updated assistant to third-party developers. They can now add Siri features into their apps.
This could greatly boost Siri’s usefulness, letting users manage personal information and perform multiple actions with a single voice command.
iOS 27.3 Expands Siri AI Capabilities Across Apple’s Apps
iOS 27.3 adds a wide range of new Siri AI functionality to Apple’s native apps in the developer beta. This includes Calendar, Files, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Safari and Reminders.
Users can now give Siri more detailed commands. This includes creating playlists in Apple Music, scheduling or editing iMessages, and adding emoji reactions to conversations.
You can also edit Notes and Files. Siri can create formatted notes, organise files into folders, and edit current content. In Photos, you can edit photos and favourite your favourite images.
Calendar has some more advanced features. You can create events with specific people, location and video call links.
Safari also has some handy new features. You can ask Siri to organise your tabs, create tab groups, clear your history, and add articles to your Reading List.
A really interesting feature is that Siri can use relevant information from your activity to understand what you want.
For example, if you want to find a coffee shop you went to last week, Siri can use its location information to figure out which one you went to, rather than you having to remember the name.
Apple iOS 27.3 Beta Opens Siri AI to Third-Party Developers
One of the most significant additions in iOS 27.3 is Apple’s decision to bring Siri’s new features outside of its apps. App Intents will make this possible, allowing third-party developers to integrate their apps with Siri.
Apple is also introducing App Skills.
App Skills allow developers to group multiple actions so Siri can perform them with a single command. Instead of telling Siri to do several actions, users can tell it to do an entire task.
Developers can also bring contextual and screen awareness to their apps. This should help Siri understand what the user is trying to do and take appropriate action.
Another handy addition lets users ask Siri what features are available in the supported app. Siri can then show them what actions they can perform.
Apple says developers can start testing these features using the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas.
The first user experiences will be available in the coming months, and Apple will also start accepting App Store submissions for apps using these features in Spring.
Siri AI Is Getting Closer to Becoming a More Capable Assistant
With App Intents, App Skills and third-party app access, Apple’s latest updates show it wants to move Siri beyond answering questions and basic voice commands. The assistant can now coordinate more complex tasks.
The real test will be how well developers adopt these features and how well Siri can complete multi-step requests.
If the integrations work, they could let users control multiple daily tasks in a single conversation with Siri, making it a much more useful assistant on iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple’s other supported devices.
