In addition to its rumored 15-inch MacBook Air, Apple is expected to release a few Macs this year, including a new iMac, a new Mac Pro, and the rumored iMac. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg News has shared some details about the new launches.
New Macs are Coming Soon!
During Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, the new iMac, which will replace the one launched in 2021, is undergoing engineering validation and production testing (EVT).
Next-generation M3 chips will be used in the new iMac. It is expected to come in two versions codenamed J433 and J434. Since the M3 chip uses 3nm instead of 5nm, it should offer significant performance improvements. In addition to having a 24-inch screen, the new iMac could come in the same colors (blue, silver, pink, and orange) as the previous iMac. The internal components will also undergo an overhaul.
It has been said that production tests have begun. Still, mass production is not expected for at least three months, so the 2023 iMac could only be available in the second half of this year. However, the announcement could occur during WWDC 2023, when the M3 chip is expected to arrive.
In addition, Apple will release a 15-inch MacBook Air, codenamed J515 (a first for Apple). Details still need to be provided regarding its processor. Considering Gurman expects a late spring or summer release, the new MacBook Air will likely receive the upcoming M3 chip. WWDC could also feature an announcement.
The M3 chip will likely also make its way into the new iPad Pro, which could be made available in 2024, along with MacBook Pros based on M3 chips.
Apple still needs to reveal its Mac plans for this year or 2024, so it would be best to take the above information with a grain of salt. We will keep you updated with future details. Please comment below and let us know your thoughts on the upcoming Mac models.
