Although the unveiling of Apple’s iPhone 17 line remains several weeks distant, murmurs of its forthcoming economical sibling, the iPhone 17e, have already slipped through the cracks. Early whispers point toward the device inheriting the lauded Dynamic Island alongside Apple’s formidable A19 silicon.
This fragment of intelligence originates from the seasoned informant Digital Chat Station (DCS), who disclosed the tidbit through Weibo. According to the leak, the iPhone 17e is anticipated to bear a 6.1-inch OLED panel capped at 60 Hz, mirroring the display configuration of the iPhone 16. DCS further hinted at a “smart island structure,” a phrase suggesting that the budget edition could indeed host Dynamic Island. Yet, considering the nuances of translation from Chinese, minor interpretive distortions cannot be ruled out.
Customary to Apple’s strategy, the frugal edition is expected to adopt the latest silicon, in this case, the A19 processor. Still, insiders speculate the chip might be a curtailed or binned variant, much like the precedent set with the iPhone 16e.
The remainder of the specifications echo its predecessor. On the front, a 12 MP lens partnered with a 3D sensor will manage Face ID authentication. At the rear, a 48 MP primary camera is listed, though absent is any confirmation of a companion lens. In terms of software, the iPhone 17e is forecast to ship with iOS 26, embedding support for the freshly branded Apple Intelligence framework.
As for pricing, expectations place the handset within the same $599 orbit as the 16e. Nonetheless, given the rumored $50 price increase across the broader iPhone 17 lineup, the budget variant might also inherit a modest increase.
