Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2 goes up for sale in India for Rs 10,990

The Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2, an iterative refresh to last year’s MediaPad 7 Youth, is available for Rs 10,990 on online stores Flipkart, Amazon and Infibeam.

The Youth 2 is a minor update to its predecessor with few changes in its design and features. The key differences include an updated operating system from Android 4.1 to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and a 1.2 GHz quad core processor instead of a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor in the 2013 model.

Huawei has retained the other features such as the 3.15 MP main camera, 7-inch screen and display resolution of 1024 x 600pixels. Quite surprisingly, the internal memory is now lower than its predecessor dipping from 8GB to 4GB. Luckily, you can expand this to up to 32GB with an external micro-SD card. The Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2 is essentially an entry-level tablet suitable for reading ebooks and light web browsing and gaming.

There has been no dearth of cheap Android tablets, with several manufacturers, both big and small, launching low-spec tablets. Flipkart launched its own tablet under the brand Digiflip last month with similar specifications as the Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth 2. At a lower price, the Digiflip Pro XT712 offers a higher-resolution screen, 5 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera and voice-calling support.

With tough competition from brands such as Flipkart and Micromax, it will be interesting to see how Huawei’s latest entry-level tablet makes a mark in the entry-level segment.
