TRAI’s new rules of DTH and Cable TV Price Hike in Monthly Bills

Trai india dth bills hike

Telecom Regulator TRAI’s cable TV and the new framework of DTH has migrated nearly 19 million users to new plans. By the way, TRAI had said that after the new rules, users would have to reduce the TV bill in advance, but tariff prices in most rural and remote areas have increased. Deadline by TRAI has also ended on March 31. TRAI has said that the migrate is almost complete. Some subscribers have selected their own channels and made their own package, while some have chosen the already built channel packs.

At the end of March it has come to know that in some rural and far-flung areas, users have come out with Price Hike in a monthly TV bill. There are also issues facing migration in many areas. This problem is coming up much more when DTH and cable companies did not have the right software. TRAI Advisor Arvind Kumar has said that the overall migration has been satisfactory. However, in the initial period there were some problems which we are now trying to solve.

“Our analysis of the impact of the regulations indicates a varied impact on monthly TV bills. Based on current pricing, the monthly TV bill can go up by 25 per cent from Rs 230-240 to around Rs 300 per month for viewers who opt for the top 10 channels, but will come down for those who opt up to top 5 channels”, Crisil senior director Sachin Gupta said.

Because of this, consumers are getting lesser channels for higher prices than before. The a-la-carte system surely makes people pay for only what they want, but has indirectly bumped the prices by a huge margin and reduced the number of channels.

The new framework of cable TV and DTH was introduced for the convenience of the users, whereby the users watching the channel have to pay their money. Prior to implementing the new framework, TRAI conducted a survey under which more than 50 channels were not seen in one month, and they had to pack 200 to 250 channels under old rules. The user’s TV bill was more than that.

TRAI Chairman RS Sharma said that we want people to pay money for the channels they want to see. These should be free channels or pad channels. It also said that the new framework will reduce the TV monthly bill of people. This is more likely to be possible when users subscribe to those channels that they see correctly.
