Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has reportedly launched a product called the Drone DR-1, a tiny drone which can be controlled via the included remote too. According to OnePlus, the DR-1 is the smallest remote-controlled drone in the world.

A quick look at the date today will tell you that this is an April Fool’s Day prank. In fact, OnePlus has specifically mentioned so on its website as well. “Happy April Fool’s Day from OnePlus! While we had some fun with this product pitch, we’ve also prepared a limited quantity of the DR-1 for you to buy.” So yes, OnePlus is indeed selling a limited quantity of these palm sized drone units.

A report by CNET confirms that the OnePlus DR-1 is available for sale. It adds that the company is actually going to sell a limited quantity of the quadcopters and people can purchase one from the company’s website and have it shipped to a US address. Uers can also enter a giveaway to get their hands on the device via the company’s local Facebook page.

The DR-1 has four independent rotors which automatically adjust for wind speeds and atmospheric shifts. The quadcopter drone will be controlled by a separate controller and no, you cannot use the OnePlus One as a controller. The company states that, even though it includes advanced features and technologies, it is lightweight and easy to carry along as well.

According to CNET, the drone can fly for 7-8 minutes and has to be recharged for 20 minutes in between flights. It weighs in at 12.5 grams and is quite portable. It will be retailing for $20 or approx Rs 1,250. The pitch for the DR-1 also claims that the DR-1 can fly higher than the the DJI Inspire 1 and DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus. Of course, that needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.
